How Critters Get Into Tile Roofs in Vancouver

Many of the tile roofs I inspect have areas that show evidence of critter infiltration. Today I will inform you about some common critter infiltration and prevention methods.

Critter Infiltration:

If you hear scratching or rustling noises in your attic you could have a problem.

Critters can enter your roof through any of the small gaps on your roof, some of the problem areas are; (Shown in pictures)

  • Slid tiles
  • Open eave ends
  • Hip tiles

Critter infiltration should be taken seriously as they can bring diseases into your home and possibly cause damage to mechanical or electrical systems in your attic. Let me show you how we can prevent these issues.

Prevention Methods:

Each infiltration area of your roof needs to be approached with the correct prevention method to stop the critters from getting into your roof:

  • Slid tile
    • Correct the tile to the original position and make sure all surrounding tiles are in tight contact
  • Open eave ends
    • Each eave needs to be blocked by installing a solid object in the gap such as wire mesh, or a metal flashing.
  • Ridge & Hip tiles
    • Pushing up the field tiles under the hip and ridge tiles and sealing under the ridge tiles with mastic

I hope you gained some knowledge about critter infiltration and the prevention methods. If you have any questions or think you have a problem of our own, please feel free to reach out anytime.
